Louisville Shotokan Karate

Melvin Lewis is a devoted practitioner of the martial arts and for over 40 years has striven to share his love of the martial arts to all those who wish to dedicate themselves to learning karate-do.

Shihan Melvin has used his training and passion for the karate to mold numerous National, Regional and State Champions in the traditional arts. This passsion and dedication has allowed Sensei to attain the rank of Rokudan (6th Dan). He is ranked in both Shotokan and Genkutsu karate systems. Shihan Lewis and his students have competed with the elite karateka in the AAU, USAKF, and the USANKF and in open competition. His students have also competed on an International level in France and Venezuela.

Additionally, Melvin Sensei is an official referee for AAU, USAKF and USANKF sanctioned events and remains active in the sport aspect of karate.

Melvin Sensei remains committed to the practice of traditional karate-do where everyone can use the art as a tool to develop character, fitness, discipline and personal growth.
